Over the summer I received a copy of Becky Wade’s new running book RUN THE WORLD. I received my copy right before I left for California in July. Yes, this is a very very very delayed post but I felt compelled to write about this book tonight because I have done nothing but try new things and take chances since I read it–and that is a good thing!
I couldn’t have read a book like this at a more appropriate time in my life.
Run the World is a book that follows Becky’s year long journey as she travels around the world and immerses herself in the running cultures of 9 different countries. The book was written in a way that made me feel like I was on the journey with her, but the part that resonated with me the most was how she took the chance to experience new things by living in new places and meeting new people. I connected with her experience because I was away from everything I knew while I read it. I found comfort in knowing that the world could be such a welcoming place (as it was portrayed in the book) and that it is meant to be explored. If Becky was able to spend a year traveling throughout 9 different countries I knew I could handle 7 weeks in California! Plus, I love running and reading about running. I actually adopted the idea of beginning runs at an easier pace to allow the body to warm up because of this book, and I am grateful for that.
My decision to spend the summer in California pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone. Learning about Becky’s willingness to try new things inspired me to try new things while I was away. I did things I never imagined I would do. I am terrified of heights but I zip lined last summer. I also climbed up on a cat walk that was 40 feet in the air! My experience in California was much less extreme than Becky’s adventure around the world, but it was the idea of having new experiences and trying new things that drew me into her story. Reading this book while I was away from home enriched my experience.
If you are looking for a fun, adventurous book that will inspire you to try new things I recommend RUN THE WORLD by Becky Wade.
